Kolkata: In West Bengal, politics continues to stir even after the assembly elections are over and the Mamata government comes back to power. BJP MLA from Nandigram and leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari have applied to the Assembly Speaker to snatch the MLAship of Mukul Roy, who returned to the party after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won the elections.

The Suvendu official has sought disqualification of Mukul Roy as MLA through an application before the Speaker of the state assembly. Earlier, Suvendu had completed the paperwork in support of his demand to disqualify Mukul Roy from the Bengal Assembly. On this, TMC questioned Suvendu whether the officer had asked his father Shishir Adhikari to resign from the Lok Sabha membership, who had changed the party and moved to the BJP. It may be recalled that Mukul Roy had won from Krishnanagar North seat on a BJP ticket in the recently concluded assembly elections and returned to TMC on June 11.

He joined the BJP after leaving Mamata Banerjee's party in 2017. Mukul Roy, once the second-highest leader in the Trinamool, was removed from the post of national general secretary of the party in February 2015. After which he joined the BJP.
