Bangalore: 'Condemning the statement made by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on the matter of the Mekedatu reservoir project,' senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

He also urged PM Modi to take the required efforts to have the Mekedatu project approved as soon as possible.

Siddaramaiah cited in the letter Jal Shakti Minister's words from February 5, which stated, "I sincerely hope and wish that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will address the issue in the same way that Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh did. In Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, the two states have finally agreed to join the Ken and Betwa rivers."

"If negotiations are held, any issue may be resolved. The Centre may only assist and facilitate on a technical level, and both states must participate " he said. These words have hurt the feelings of the people of Kamataka, who have been patiently waiting for the Central government to give the project environmental clearance, he said.

"We had hoped that the 'Double Engine' government would accelerate the realisation of people's ambitions, but in reality, both engines have seized to pull the State to a better today," the letter stated.
