Mumbai: Standup comedian Munawwar Farooqi programme, who made fun of Hinduism and deities in the name of comedy, has been cancelled in Mumbai. Since then, Munawwar's supporters have been threatening to kill Siddhant Mohite. Mohite, the founder of The Saffron Think Tank, has been raising his voice against the alleged comedian's Hinduphobia from the beginning. After receiving the threat, he has written a letter demanding police protection.

In fact, Farooqi's show was scheduled to take place in Mumbai on October 29, 30 and 31. Mohite's campaign against this had the effect that the Vrinnmumbai Municipality (BMC) cancelled Farooqi's show for "administrative reasons." Mohite had written to the Maharashtra CM, governor and other security agencies to protest against his show. Clips of Farooqi's anti-Hindu standup comedy were also shared along with the letter. In his October 15 letter, Mohite explained how Munawwar insults Hinduism in the name of comedy, so he should not be allowed to do the show.

Farooqi's supporters are running a campaign targeting Mohite after the show was cancelled by BMC. He is being threatened with death. Interestingly, on the one hand, Farooqi is assuring Mohite that he will ask his fans not to do so, while on the other hand, he is also saying that 'fans get emotional sometimes.' Earlier, Farooqi had posted a post on his Instagram account and wrote, 'Shows scheduled for October 29, 30, 31, 2021 in Mumbai have been cancelled. The security of the audience matters the most to me. I don't want my audience to go through my experience.'
