Lucknow: Imran Masood, one of the congress stalwarts in Uttar Pradesh, is set to join the Samajwadi Party (SP) today. He is accompanied by Congress MLA Masood Akhtar from Saharanpur rural, but Congress MLA Naresh Saini, who is close to Imran, has decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Behat seat is believed to be the biggest reason behind MLA Naresh Saini's move to bjp from Behat seat after Imran Masood and Masood Akhtar announced their move with SP. According to sources, Imran Masood himself is planning to contest the assembly elections from Behat seat this time when his close MLA Naresh Saini has decided to leave Imran's hand and go with the BJP.

Imran Masood is said to have brought Naresh Saini to the state. Imran had given Naresh Saini a Congress ticket from Behat assembly seat in the 2012 elections. In that election, he lost to BJP's Mahavir Rana by just 514 votes, but Naresh Saini, who fought on a Congress ticket in 2017, defeated Mahavir Rana by more than 25,000 votes. It remains to be seen whether the BJP fielded Naresh Saini from Behat this time, or bet on its old leader.
