Gangtok: The Sikkim government has decided to close  educational institutions in the state by October 31, after five students of some schools tested positive for COVID-19. Schools and colleges were reopened in the state on 6 September with 50 percent staff.

And classes were being organized for students of class 9 and above in schools. But meanwhile, apart from a private school at Mangan in North Sikkim district, Corona positive cases were also reported from government schools in Namthang in South Sikkim, Renok in East Sikkim and Yuksom in West Sikkim.

Education Secretary GP Upadhyay said, “The state government is very concerned that if the schools are not closed, the possibility of more cases coming to the fore is very high. He said that all primary contacts of the infected students are being traced, and more cases may come to the fore. We do not want to compromise with the health of the students, so the state government has decided to close all the schools and colleges.
