"Simple acts like not throwing trash and driving properly are responsibilities of a citizen": Karan Kundrra

Independence Day isn't just for watching patriotic movies and indulging in tricolor treats, according to Karan Kundrra. He doesn't support superficial tokenism. "I don't observe any specific traditions on July 4th. I won't indulge in tricolor specials at home or watch the same patriotic movie every year just for the sake of it. I prefer to spend the day in front of documentaries about the country's geopolitical and economic situation. I would like to watch or read about the nation's infrastructure development, our upcoming major projects, and our space footprints. I'm interested in that, he declares.

After visiting the BSF camp in Jalandhar, Karan's attitude toward independence was altered. He remembers, "I visited the BSF camp as part of a school activity on Independence Day. It was a life-changing experience. My definition of independence has changed as a result of being there and learning how the security forces function on a daily basis, and I now value them even more. I was unaware at the time of the constant threat to our freedom and the great efforts made by the forces to keep us safe. The Kargil War was still raging when I recall them teaching us about proxy warfare. More than 20 years have passed since that visit, and we continue to hear reports of terrorists entering the nation. As citizens, we should be grateful that our forces work so arduously to ensure our safety while we sleep.

The actor believes that some people don't appreciate the daily sacrifices that the forces make. Even today, there are some nations where people lack access to basic rights. However, we should be grateful that we have freedom. I believe that is underappreciated by most people. They are unaware of the sacrifices that our troops make, he says.

According to Karan, it's difficult for everyone to contribute to the development of the nation and act as responsible citizens. According to him, even simple acts like "not throwing trash on the roads or driving properly" are the responsibility of citizens. "We ought to love and respect our nation. There is no country like India and no culture like ours, believe me; I've travelled extensively and experienced many different cultures. We ought to all take pride in that, he continues.
