Ace PV Indian shuttlers Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth qualified to the 2021 BWF World Championships quarterfinals after winning their respective singles round of 16 matches on Thursday.

Sindhu, the defending champion, defeated Thailand's ninth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-14, 21-18 in a 48-minute pre-quarterfinal match to keep her hopes alive for a second consecutive world badminton crown. Sindhu defeated Chochuwong, who was rated 10th, for the sixth time in eight meetings. Sindhu had been defeated by the Thai in their last two meetings, including the BWF World Tour Finals earlier this month.

On Friday, the two-time Olympic medalist will face Tai Tzu-Ying of Chinese Taipei, who defeated Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour 21-11, 19-21, 21-10 in 48 minutes. Srikanth advanced to the last eight in the men's singles after defeating unseeded Guang Zu Lu of China 21-10, 21-15.

However, Thailand's Rawinda Prajongjai and Jongkolphan Kititharakul defeated Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy in the women's doubles for the seventh time in a row. In 38 minutes, the Indian pair were defeated by the sixth seeds 13-21, 15-21.
