One of the renowned singers in the entertainment industry, Vani Jairam passes away on 4 February. Vani has sung over 10,000 songs in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi. She died at her apartment in Chennai. She was found dead at her Haddows Road apartment in Chennai. She was recently awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award.
She was found dead at her residence in Chennai on Saturday morning. She was living alone at her residence on Haddows Road in Chennai since 2018, after the demise of her husband Jairam. When her helper, who used to do the daily chores arrived at her residence around 10.45 AM, and even after ringing the doorbell repeatedly, there was no response. She immediately contacted the singer's sister, Uma, after she failed to open the door and didn't answer the phone calls.
After this, the house using a duplicate key, and she was found dead on the floor of her bedroom. After this they informed the Chennai police, and Vani Jairam's mortal remains were later shifted to Kilpauk Government hospital for further examination and post-mortem. There are bruise marks on her forehead as per reports. A team of officers from the Tamil Nadu forensic department has conducted an inspection at Vani Jairam's residence.
Triplicane DCP Shekhar Deshmukh confirmed that the Chennai police have now registered a case of a suspicious death, following Vani Jairam's demise. She made her singing debut at the age of 8 with a performance for All India Radio. After finishing her studies, Vani Jairam worked with the State Bank Of India for some time and got married to Jairam. It was her husband who convinced her to pursue a career in music. She was a part of the film industry for five decades, and received the National Best Playback Singer award thrice, besides state awards in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Odisha.
