Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday, February 28, inaugurated power infrastructure projects worth Rs.192 crores.
The were 25 projects inaugurated which included 22 receiving stations costing Rs 50 cr; Smart Metering project costing Rs 62.88 cr and Smart Metering App – Smart Bill Sahuliyat, and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition system at a cost of Rs 79.27 cr.
KPDCL and JPDCL signed MoUs worth Rs. 1814 billion and Rs. 2174 billion, respectively, with PESL (PGCIL), RECPDCL, and NTPC for the implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Programme in the presence of the Lt. Governor (RDSS). It will boost the delivery of power to rural and urban areas and strengthen distribution infrastructure.
The Lt. Governor dedicated the power infrastructure projects to the people and stated that they will increase the current distribution capacity and provide a quality power supply to homes and current and future industrial units in the respective locations.
He said that the goal of supplying Jammu and Kashmir residents with reliable power around-the-clock will be greatly advanced by the conclusion of the projects covered by the MoUs signed today.The J&K people now have access to a hassle-free electricity supply because to our committed efforts to improve generation, transmission, and distribution capacity, the Lt Governor noted.
People will have access to a high-quality and dependable power supply thanks to projects that are being done to build new receiving stations and upgrade current stations. Through projects sponsored by the PMDP and the central government, we have greatly increased our capability. The Lt Governor stated that out of 195 projects, 135 had been finished and the remaining 60 will be finished in the upcoming months.
In contrast to previous years, the power situation in Jammu and Kashmir, which had been in disarray for decades, has undergone a significant improvement with more electricity being supplied, especially in remote areas.
In Kashmir Valley, more capacity was built throughout the winter to accommodate peak demand, and 10% more electricity was supplied compared to last year. Eleven of the total 30 grid stations have been upgraded for the first time in a single year, he noted.
After the addition of additional system capacities, the region of Jammu's power supply situation has improved. The Lt Governor stated that these efforts serve as an example of our commitment to inclusive development and meeting the needs of the average person. The Lt. Governor emphasised the changes made in the last three years to the UT's electrical infrastructure, sustainability, and efficiency.
A well-planned, methodical, and thorough programme is being conducted under PMDP and Centrally Sponsored Schemes for the improvement and upgrading of transmission and distribution infrastructure to simplify and reinforce the supply of power throughout J&K, he added.
At the 220 and 132 KV levels, the goal of adding 1727 MVA of capacity was met, and 236 circuit km of transmission line were built. In the distribution sector, we have increased capacity by 2345 MVA, and 8550 new distribution transformers have been erected in residential areas. In the upcoming years, four large hydro projects will be finished.
He said, 57,000 smart metres were installed during the project's first phase, and 1.25 lakh would be deployed during phase two. He directed the officials to avail the benefit of RDSS scheme.
The Power Amnesty program's implementation must be evaluated, and officers must work hard to cut down on AT&C losses. Take away people's fears. He emphasised that smart metres should be made more widely known.
The Lt. Governor invited residents to take part in government initiatives aimed at advancing the socioeconomic conditions of rural and urban areas. The Lt. Governor also discussed the changes in agriculture and related industries, as well as how the adoption of 29 projects suggested by the Apex Committee can improve the quality of life for farming people.
He also discussed the successes from Return to the Village, including the employment prospects for youth, recruitment into government positions, and expediting the departmental promotion procedure.
Smart Metering Application - Bill Sahuliyat was introduced today to make life easier for customers with smart metres. It would alert customers about electricity savings and help them understand the advantages of smart metres.
It was stated that the newly integrated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCDA) system in distribution will aid in the quick restoration of the power supply in case of any feeder faults by providing centralised control and monitoring of receiving stations.
The Lt. Governor expressed his condemnation over the killing of a civilian in Pulwama while speaking with the media. The perpetrators of the murder will be dealt with by our security forces. The Lt Governor stated that we are attempting to enhance the security situation from all angles.
