NEW DELHI: In connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case, the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday, March 20, extended Manish Sisodia's judicial custody for 14 days.

Notably, Manish  Sisodia is at present under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and was virtually produced in court. The case focuses on alleged inconsistencies in the formulation and application of the GNCTD excise policy.

Sisodia's judicial detention was extended by Special Judge MK Nagpal on Monday till April 3, 2023. Hearing in the case on the bail petition is scheduled for March 21, 2023.

Sisodia was on Monday produced before the honorable Court virtually as presently he is in Custody of the Enforcement Directorate till March 22.

Manish Sisodia, a former minister for Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claimed in a trial court bail petition that keeping him in detention would be ineffective because all recoveries had already been made.
Sisodia added that he joined the inquiry when the Central Bureau of Investigation requested it (CBI). Bail has previously been approved for the other suspects who have been detained in this investigation. Sisodia added that he is well-established in society and occupies the significant constitutional position of Deputy CM of Delhi.

The Enforcement Directorate recently detained Sisodia in connection with a money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the formulation and execution of the GNCTD excise policy.

Prior to sending Sisodia to CBI detention, Rouse Avenue Court ordered that the accused's questioning during the remand period take place in a location with CCTV coverage in compliance with the rules established by the Supreme Court, and that the CBI keep a copy of the recorded footage.

In connection with a case involving suspected anomalies in the formulation and application of the GNCTD excise policy, Sisodia was detained by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate.

The trial court had earlier noted that the accused had twice previously joined the investigation into this case, but it had also noted that he had not given satisfactory responses to the majority of the questions posed to him during his examination and interrogation, and had thus failed to adequately explain the allegedly incriminating evidence that had come to light during the investigation to that point.
