Earlier, the Vatican rejected her appeal in which he had appealed against his expulsion from the Franciscan Clarist Synod. She is one of the nuns who participated in the protests against former Bishop Franco Mulakkal, accused of rape.

According to media reports, the action against Sister Lucy has been done for publishing poetry, buying cars and participating in demonstrations against the former bishop accused of rape. On August 5, a letter was issued to accused nun Lucy Kalappura on behalf of Al Joseph-based Dharm Sabha. For which he has failed to give satisfactory answers in the matter of adopting a lifestyle that violates the rules of 'The Franciscan Clarist Synod'. Therefore, she is dismissed from the Synod.

It was written in the letter that she was warned at the appropriate time, but she did not express any remorse. Therefore, at the meeting of the General Council of the Synod on May 11, it was decided to sack Kalappura by 'consensus'. In a notice issued to Kalappura in January, the FCC called the violation of the rules for obtaining driving license, buying a car, taking loan, publishing a book and spending money without the knowledge of superiors.
