HYDERABAD: Telangana police on Thursday detained six accused in the murder case of TRS leader Tammineni Krishnaiah in Khammam district.
According to reports, six of the eight defendants in the case were detained near the border between the districts of Khammam and Mahabubabad. The weapons used to kill the TRS commander three days ago were also found by the police.
There were apparently arrests made for Ramzan Shaik, Gajji Krishna Swamy, Nukala Lingaiah, B. Sreenu, B. Nageswara Rao, and AY Nagaiah. Later on in the day, the arrests are probably going to be officially revealed.
Both Krishna Jakkampudi and Tammineni Koteshwara Rao, the main suspect and the victim's cousin, have not yet been apprehended.
On Monday, while Krishnaiah (62) was making his way home from attending Independence Day celebrations in a neighbouring hamlet, he was ambushed by a group of four assailants in the Teldarupalli village of the Khammam district and brutally murdered.
The victim's family blamed Koteshwara Rao for the murder. He is the brother of CPI-M state secretary T. Veerabhadram.
After the murder, Koteshwara Rao's home was attacked by Krishnaiah's supporters. Police issued prohibitory orders in accordance with section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code as unrest erupted in the area.
According to police, a rift between the cousins over 2019 election to Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) at Teldarupalli is suspected to have led to the murder.
