SEOUL: An official from South Korea's Foreign Ministry in Seoul said on Thursday that the country's mission in Ukraine is ready to begin operations in Chernivtsi, near Romania, after moving out of Kiev in the wake of Russia's military invasion.

According to Yonhap report, Ambassador Kim Hyung-tae and other embassy personnel arrived in Chernivtsi on Wednesday night, along with six South Korean nationals who expressed a desire to leave the Ukrainian capital.

The mission will be transferred, according to the Ministry, since it has become "impossible to continue diplomatic activities and ensure the safety of the employees owing to increasing military threats in the city of Kiev."

The Seoul ministry has a temporary office in Chernivtsi, as well as another in Lviv, near the Polish border, to assist South Korean residents in the European country. As of Thursday morning, 40 Korean nationals were still in Ukraine, with 26 of them expressing a desire to stay.’
