New Delhi: Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to India, Milinda Moragoda,  has met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to address the current crisis in the island country and to solicit India's help in securing international backing for Sri Lanka's economic recovery.

"The discussion centred on Sri Lanka's current economic crisis, and the High Commissioner thanked the National Security Advisor for the assistance provided by the Indian government to Sri Lanka in managing the situation," the Sri Lankan High Commission said in a statement.

"In this backdrop, High Commissioner Moragoda urged India's assistance in securing international support for Sri Lanka's economic recovery, to which the National Security Advisor answered positively," the statement said. A full review of the condition of the bilateral relationship was conducted during their meeting, and important topics for future collaboration were discussed.

Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri and Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi, Niluka Kadurugamuwa, also attended the meeting.

With food and fuel shortages, increasing prices, and power outages affecting a huge number of inhabitants, Sri Lanka is experiencing its greatest economic crisis since independence, resulting in major protests that ended in former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's resignation last week.
