Starting April 1, the prices of vital medicines such as painkillers, antibiotics, and anti-infectives are expected to slightly rise.
Following the yearly shift in the wholesale price index (WPI), the government plans to permit a minute increase of 0.0055% in the prices of drugs listed under the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM).
Compared to last year, when the prices of 384 crucial drugs and over 1,000 formulations surged by more than 11% due to a notable increase in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), this year's increase is considerably smaller. However, this upcoming price adjustment will still impact consumers, as they'll have to shell out more for common and essential medications like painkillers, anti-infection drugs, cardiac medications, and antibiotics.
The annual price adjustments for drugs included in the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) are linked to changes in the WPI.
