Smart Move Innovative Urban Mobility Challenge by MoHUA, won by IIT Roorkee

Roorkee: The Smart Move Innovative Urban Mobility Challenge was recently won by the Indian Institute of Technology, or IIT Roorkee. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, or MoHUA, organised the challenge. The National Institute of Urban Affairs, GIZ India, and the Smart City Mission have also backed it up.

Professor Amit Agarwal, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee, led the IIT Roorkee research team. Mr. Arpit Shrivastava, Ms. Itisha Jain, and Mr. Devesh Pratap Singh were also on the team. The team from IIT Roorkee was recognised at the 4th annual Urban Mobility Conference. Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary of MoHUA, presented the award to the team.

The team at IIT Roorkee created an interactive passenger information system with the goal of predicting the level of crowding in public transportation. IIT Roorkee Director Professor Ajit. K. Chaturvedi congratulated the team on their achievement. ", he said "The winning team's work enhances the appeal of public transportation. This will reduce our reliance on private motorised transportation, which is an important goal in addressing private transportation's negative environmental impact." Eighty teams took part in the Smart Move Innovative Urban Mobility Challenge, which was held in November 2020. The top 10 teams were given the opportunity to develop the product and present it to the jury on October 21 after a thorough screening.
