SMBs clocks 60% surge in job creations in India: Report

NEW DELHI:  A new report showed on Monday that  Jobs posted by small & midsize businesses (SMBs) surppassed a 60 percent (year-on-year) surge, with emerging small businesses from tier 1 & 2 cities posting more than 2.1 million jobs in 2022 alone.

A survey from the professional networking and employment site Apna claims that these new small firms have come from tier 1 and tier 2 cities including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.

Bhopal, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, and Kanpur were the tier 2 cities with the highest number of job applications; they accounted for 40% of all SMB vacancies listed throughout the year.

"It has also been incredible to see tier-II cities develop as epicentres of opportunity. We think that the expanding workforce, headed by SMBs and MSMEs, would significantly contribute to the expansion of the Indian economy "In a statement, Apna.co's Chief Business Officer Manas Singh stated.

Additionally, the business reported that this year, over 12 million professionals signed up on the platform, resulting in a 67% (year-over-year) increase in user growth in 2022.

According to the report, professionals still favour work-from-home job options due to their greater flexibility and ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The report also said that professionals continue to view flexibility, work-life balance, and upskilling as the primary priority areas, even more so at the moment, as organisations embrace the new ordinary post-COVID.
