Two people arrested for smuggling of drugs in Kolkata

Guwahati: 2 smugglers who reached the capital of Bengal, Kolkata with the drugs worth Rs. 21 crores from Assam, have been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) team of the police. Those identified as 47-year-old Mahar Ali and 26-year-old Raviul Hussain. Both are residents of Assam. STF Deputy Commissioner IPS Aparajita Roy has informed about his arrest on Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner Roy said that according to intelligence information around 7.45 pm on Saturday night, the truck of Ashok Leyland Company was stopped near Milk Colony in Belagachia area of Ultadanga police station area. Two kg of heroin, hidden in a packet in the truck's battery box, has been seized after an extensive search. It is valued at Rs 10 crore in the international market. 2.32 lakh Yaba tablets have also been recovered, which are valued at Rs 11.6 crore in the international market. In all, drugs worth Rs 21.6 crore have been seized. After intensive interrogation of both, an FIR has been lodged in custody around 3:00 am on Sunday. A legal investigation has been started against them by registering a case under the sections of NDPS Act.

The Deputy Commissioner has said that during preliminary interrogation, both have admitted that they have come out with the intention of crossing the narcotics border of Bangladesh. It was to be handed over to someone else but before that, they were caught. Efforts are being made to inquire about them and find out about their other associates.
