SRINAGAR: All flights have been delayed on account of constant snowfall. The visibility is only 200 metres. To avoid inconvenience and congestion, passengers have been asked to check the status of the flight before coming to the airport,  Srinagar airport director Kuldeep Singh Rishi has said.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was halted to traffic on January 30 due to a landslip in the Ramban area, trapping a few hundred vehicles.

Mudslides and flying rocks closed the 270-kilometer-long highway connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country between Chanderkote and Banihal in the district. As a result, 300 vehicles are stalled at various motorway crossroads, and workers and equipment have been dispatched to clear the situation.

Rain and snow poured in numerous parts of Jammu and Kashmir this afternoon as new western disturbances struck the state and surrounding territories.

The weather agency projected widespread light to moderate snow in the plains and showers in Jammu on January 30.

A Metrological dept official stated that the weather system was likely the cause of the moderate to heavy snowfall across middle and higher altitudes.
