Every state of the country has a distinct identity, which is reflected in its culture and dress. Similarly, we are talking about the state of Odisha, whose foundation day is celebrated on April 1. Odisha has many ancient names like Kalinga, Utkala, and Udra, but it is most famous as the land of Lord Jagannath. Significantly, Lord Jagannath is closely associated with the social, cultural, and religious life of Odisha. Odisha is a state of India that is situated on the eastern coast of the country. Today we will tell you some special things related to Odisha and why Odisha Day is celebrated.

On April 1, i.e., Odisha Day, those people of history are remembered who made immense contributions and sacrifices to take Odisha forward and make it successful. This day is celebrated as Utkal Diwas (Odisha Day). The special thing is that Odisha Day is celebrated not only in different states of India but also in those countries where the people of Odisha reside. Significantly, Odisha is also known as the state of Kalinga. There is a special reason for this; it is said that in ancient times Odisha state/region was the centre of Kalinga state, hence even today Odisha is known as Kalinga state. Utkal Diwas is also celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the state of Odisha on April 1, 1936.

This day is a holiday in Odisha. On this day, seminars and competitions are organised in many places, along with cultural programmes in the evening. Tell you what, most of the people in Orissa are tribes. Most of the tribes mainly live in Koraput, Phulbani, Sundergarh, and Mayurbhanj districts. There are about 60 tribes that live mainly in the forest and remote hilly areas of the state. Odisha is bordered by Jharkhand in the north, West Bengal in the northeast, Andhra Pradesh in the south, Chhattisgarh in the west, and the Bay of Bengal in the east. The Odisha region is primarily a rice-producing region.
