Social worker and Padma Shri awardee Shanti Devi passed away last night at her residence in Gunupur in Raigada district of Odisha. Shanti Devi was a well known social worker in Odisha. Shanti Devi was born on April 18, 1934. The social worker started a small ashram in Koraput and later established the seva samaj in Raigad. The Seva Samaj was formed for the overall development of the girl child. Then it was a never-ending journey of social work where he had set up another ashram in Ganpur. The Ashram also worked towards education, vocational training, rehabilitation of orphans and destitute children.

She has also played an invaluable role for the upliftment of tribal girls through education. As one of the leading pioneers of the social service movement, he has been awarded one of the country's most prestigious civic awards , 'Padma Shri' in 2021.
