Mogadishu: In a bold declaration, Somalia's government, led by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, has revealed its intent to obliterate the Al-Shabab terrorist group from its soil within a matter of months.
The Prime Minister announced this pivotal initiative on Saturday, highlighting the collaboration between the government, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and allied partners.
Prime Minister Roble noted substantial strides achieved in recent months against Al-Shabab. These successes include wresting control from the group in several strongholds and significantly diminishing its capacity to launch attacks.

Despite these advancements, Roble acknowledged Al-Shabab's lingering threat and underlined the government's unwavering commitment to pursue complete eradication.
"Our determination to vanquish Al-Shabab and foster peace and stability in Somalia is unwavering," Roble affirmed. "We shall persist until this objective is achieved."
The global community welcomed this resolute stance. The United States, a significant contributor to AMISOM, reaffirmed its dedication to bolster Somalia's endeavors to dismantle Al-Shabab.

"We stand united with the people of Somalia in their struggle against Al-Shabab," affirmed a statement from the US State Department. "We shall persist in supporting both AMISOM and the Somali government as they strive to construct a more secure and prosperous future for all Somalis."
Al-Shabab, an Islamist extremist organization, has been engaged in a protracted conflict within Somalia for over a decade. The group maintains control over substantial portions of the country's southern and central territories.
Al-Shabab's history is marked by a series of assaults, encompassing suicide bombings, targeted assassinations, and assaults on educational institutions and medical facilities. Furthermore, the group has been implicated in acts of terrorism beyond Somalia's borders, with notable attacks occurring in Kenya and Uganda.
