Actress Sonam Bajwa, who is well recognized for her work in Punjabi cinema, claimed that she purposefully declined roles in Hindi films out of worry for how it might impact her reputation in Punjab. Although she said that she wasn't at ease with on-screen kissing, she claimed that her parents are now much more understanding of what she does.
Sonam Bajwa made her film debut in Punjabi in 2013 with Best Of Luck, and since then, she has grown to be one of the most well-liked actors in the business. This July, the actor will have worked in the business for ten years. She admitted in an interview that she has previously declined Bollywood parts out of concern about the Punjabi audience's reaction. Sonam admitted that she turned down a movie including a kissing scene because she didn't want to let anyone down, especially her family.
She also acknowledged that she holds back on making social media comments regarding some topics because she is unsure of how her fan base will react to them. She claimed to have developed skills in striking a balance between her glitzy online identity and the provincial girl she perceives herself to be.
, She went on, “We have that mentality, that families will be watching… I was very scared to do a kissing scene in a film back then, because I thought, ‘How are people going to respond to it, how will these people, who’ve made me who I am, respond to it? Is my family going to understand that this is for a film?’ I had all these questions in my mind.”
She previously went on the audition list for Deepika Padukone to play the character of Mohini in Farah Khan's Happy New Year in 2014. She has also appeared in supporting roles in the Hindi movies Street Dancer 3D (2020) and Bala (2019). Sonam has a base in Mumbai, where she resides when she is not filming for her Punjabi movies. She continued by saying that while she had previously been much more cautious, she was now more willing to see what Bollywood has to offer.
