NEW DELHI: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday directed Shashi Tharoor, a top party official, to skip a CPI-M seminar scheduled for April and instead listen to Kerala's leadership. The national seminar will be talken place at the CPI-23rd M's party Congress, which will be held at the red fort of Kannur from April 6 to April 10.

Soinia’s statement  comes after Tharoor joined a meeting of Congress "rebels", apparently ditching the Congress's Kerala unit by planning to attend the Left's seminar. According to sources, Kerala Congress leaders met with Sonia Gandhi at the party's Delhi parliamentary office to inform her of the "embarrassing" event.

K. Sudhakaran, the Congress' Kerala state chairman, stated the state party has placed a ban on party leaders attending the CPI-national M's seminar in Kannur as part of its national conference, adding that anyone who breaks the prohibition will face party action.

Tharoor and former Union Minister K.V. Thomas, who is also from the state, were invited to the Left party's national political seminar. The Congress, on the other hand, issued a statement saying that no Congress leader should attend the CPI-M seminar because the party is fighting the CPI-M because of the Left government led by Pinarayi Vijayan's "anti-people policies."
