Earlier, Congress leader and lawyer by profession Kapil Sibal had tried to unite the opposition party. He had invited opposition leaders to dinner on the occasion of his birthday. Around 45 leaders and MPs from 15 parties had arrived at the dinner party. Among them were leaders like Lalu Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, Derek O'Brien, Sitaram Yechury, Sanjay Raut, and AAP MP Sanjay Singh.

Rahul Gandhi is also trying to unite the opposition. He had invited opposition parties for breakfast before Kapil Sibal. At Rahul's invitation, leaders of several major opposition parties attended the Constitution Club, during which Rahul Gandhi emphasized opposition unity.
