New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the Congress, expressed her condolences on the death of veteran Congress leader K Sankaranarayanan, saying that his death was a loss to the entire nation.

Sonia Gandhi said Sankaranarayanan will be remembered for his work in Kerala as the Convener of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and as a "humane" Governor of numerous states.

Governor of Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Jharkhand, Sankaranarayanan. As Governor, he was also in charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Goa. 

"Deeply saddened by the death of K Sankaranarayananji, a legendary Congress leader and former Governor. As the UDF Convener and a humanitarian Governor of multiple States, he would be recognised for his contributions to Kerala. His death is a loss for the entire country "Gandhi stated the following.

On Sunday, Sankaranarayanan passed away. At his home in Palakkad, Kerala, he exhaled his final breath. Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, also offered his sympathies on Sankaranarayanan's death.

"Sending sincere condolences on the death of K Sankaranarayanan, a senior Congress leader. He was a staunch supporter of Nehru's secularism. He was a well-known politician who cared about the people. He implemented people-friendly initiatives as governor, minister, and legislator, and he advocated for development "The Chief Minister sent out a tweet. V D Satheesan, the leader of the opposition, Governor Arif Muhammad Khan, and many more leaders from other walks of life have also offered their sympathies.
