NEW DELHI: After all attempts to persuade Rahul Gandhi, the Congress command has once again gone into the hands of Sonia Gandhi, who has completed the term of the party's longest president. After Rahul Gandhi's resignation, there was an indecisiveness in the party. Sonia Gandhi was elected interim president of the party after no other name was agreed upon. A party faction feels that Sonia's decision to make her as interim president was good and would add to the enthusiasm of the activists in this challenging time.

But some believe that the decision has reaffirmed the Congress' dependence on the Gandhi family and it will take time for the party to get out of the shadow of the family. A senior leader says there will be no change in leadership as it is within the family. At the same time, there is a voice in the party that elections for the post of Speaker should be held soon.

Rahul Gandhi had said this while resigning as party president. People also believe that after the change in leadership, the old people will once again get importance in the party and the youth who have come forward under Rahul Gandhi's leadership will have to sit in the back row. It is also a hope for Congress leaders because Sonia has already introduced successful leadership in the past. Sonia Gandhi, who took over the party from 1998 to 2017, is credited with running a successful alliance as the UPA. It was he who brought the opposition parties together to defeat the BJP-led NDA in 2004. He continues to hold the party.
