New Delhi: Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday expressed concern over the pace of corona vaccination in the country and said that steps need to be taken to prepare rapidly and especially to protect children in view of the threat of a third wave of the epidemic. He said this at a digital meeting of party general secretaries and state charges.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, "Congress chief Sonia Gandhi addressed a meeting of general secretaries and in-charge. She expressed deep concern over the pace of vaccination. She emphasized more on preparing for the third wave of corona epidemic and giving priority to the safety of children.'' The meeting, chaired by Sonia Gandhi, will chalk out a strategy to corner the Central government on issues such as the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

Party sources said that the congress leaders will also brainstorm on the party's proposed contact campaign at the digital meeting. The meeting will deliberate on further strategy in terms of increase in prices of petrol-diesel and essential food items. The meeting will also discuss the current situation and economic situation in covid. The meeting will be followed by a meeting of heads of state Congress committees. Sonia Gandhi has convened this meeting with senior party leaders ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament. The monsoon session may be in July. The Congress has been continuously attacking the government for the past few days over the issue of the hike in petrol and diesel prices.
