Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Ambika Soni is all set to become the new Chief Minister of Punjab. In fact, till late last Saturday night, party leaders in the Punjab Congress brainstormed and after that, the leaders have agreed with her name. On the other hand, Ambika Soni has categorically refused to become the Chief Minister of Punjab. There are reports that Ambika Soni has refused to take over as chief minister in view of the factionalism in the party in Punjab. In fact, Ambika said, "It would be better if a leader belonging to the Sikh community in Punjab is made chief minister.''
According to reports, current Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and former President Sunil Jakhar are leading the race to get the post of Chief Minister of Punjab. All of you have been entrusted with the responsibility of electing the new captain of the state by the Congress MLAs of Punjab to the interim president of the party Sonia Gandhi. On the other hand, after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as chief minister last Saturday, the legislature party meeting unanimously authorized the election of the new Chief Minister of Punjab. Some sources said, apart from State Congress Committee President Navjot Singh Sidhu as the leader of the new legislature party, former Congress Punjab unit president Sunil Jakhar, former minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tripti Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Rajya Sabha member Pratap Singh Bajwa are in the news. Besides, the names of former Union Ministers Ambika Soni, Brahma Mohindra, Vijay Inder Singla, Punjab Congress Working President Kuljit Singh Nagara etc. Some Congress sources said, "If the party high command decides to make Sidhu the chief minister, he could be accompanied by two deputy chief ministers from the Hindu and Dalit communities or one of them as deputy chief minister and the other community leader as the state Congress committee president.''
