'I'm full time Congress president,' Sonia Gandhi's blunt reply to Sibal and G-23 leaders

New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is meeting today amid the ongoing turmoil in the Congress. The party's interim president Sonia Gandhi is chairing the meeting. During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi has bluntly answered a question by veteran party leader Kapil Sibal about the speaker. In fact, Sonia Gandhi said, 'I am the full-time Congress president. There is no need to talk to me through the media.'

Sonia Gandhi further said, "The shocking incidents of Lakhimpur Kheri reflect the mindset of the BJP as to how it looks at the farmers' movement. It shows how the BJP is facing this strong struggle to protect their lives and livelihoods by farmers.' Senior party leader P Chidambaram, Punjab CM Charanjeet Singh Channi and several other leaders have arrived to attend the meeting. Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad and former party president Rahul Gandhi is also present at the meeting.

In all, there are 52 members in this meeting. Meanwhile, five veteran leaders including former PM Manmohan Singh and Digvijay Singh have not attended the meeting. The meeting has been reported to discuss the upcoming assembly elections and changes in the party at the organisational level.
