New Delhi: South Africa have created history by beating Team India by 7 wickets in the Johannesburg Test. This is South Africa's first Test win over India at the Wanderers Stadium. With this, South Africa has achieved a target of as big as 240 against any team for the first time on this ground. South Africa captain Dean Elgar contributed the most to this historic victory.
In the second innings, when Team India set a target of 240 runs for Africa, the record was expected to make it easier for Team India to win the match, but Elgar stayed at the crease in such a way that South Africa returned after winning. Dean Elgar faced 188 balls and stayed at the crease till the end. He played an unbeaten 96-run match-winning inning. Elgar hit 10 fours in his innings. Elgar, meanwhile, shared an unbeaten partnership with Aiden Markram, Keegan Peterson, Rasi wen der Dussen and then finally Temba Bavuma.
Elgar has also become the second South African batsman to score the highest score against Team India as captain. He broke a record nearly 30 years old. Earlier, Kepler Wessels scored an unbeaten 95 against India in the Johannesburg Test in 1992/93. However, the record for scoring the highest score against the Indian team is also held by former captain Kepler Wessels. He scored 118 runs in the 1992/93 series itself in the Durban match.
