New Delhi: South Africa has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20 series with a thrilling one-run win over the West Indies. Batting first, South Africa scored 167 for 8 in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, the Caribbean managed to score 166 for 7 in 20 overs and lost the match by one run. South Africa bowler Anrich Nortje's 19th over made a winning margin for the South African team. Nortje took 2 wickets for 29 runs in his 4 overs. Both Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell sent back to the pavilion.
Earlier, Quinton de Kock scored 72 off 51 balls for South Africa. He hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. Apart from De Kock, Van Der Dussen scored a quick 32 off 24 balls. Chasing the target, The Caribbean team was given a good start by Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons. The duo added 55 runs for the first wicket. However, the Caribbean innings faltered after the break-up of this partnership. West Indies suffered their first blow as Simmons and shortly thereafter Lewis returned to the pavilion after scoring 57 runs. Though the way Andre Russell was batting while handling the shaky team, it seemed that the Caribbean team would clinch the match, but on the final ball of the 17th over, Nortje gave the West Indies a big blow by hunting Russell.
The 19th over was the turning point of the match for South Africa. After the 18th over, West Indies needed 19 off 12 balls to win. West Indies scored four off the opening three balls of the 19th over. The fourth ball went empty. Nortje dismissed Pooran on the fifth ball. After this big wicket, the last ball of this over remained dot. The 20th over was bowled by Rabada. After 4 balls of his over, West Indies needed 8 off 2 balls to win. After a single, The Indies now needed 7 off 1 ball, Ellon hit a six off the final ball, but could not lead the team to victory. And lost the match by just one run.
