A South African national was arrested at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on suspicion of smuggling 8 kilogrammes of Heroin worth Rs 56 crore. According to a senior Customs official, the accused was arrested on February 26. "At CSMI Airport, we intercepted one South African passenger based on profiling."

"The passenger was caught with 8 kilogrammes of off-white material that tested positive for Heroin and was valued at Rs 56 crore," the customs official said. The official said that the cocaine was clearly intended for smuggling into India. The official stated that it was clear that the man had broken the provisions of section 8 of the NDPS Act, as well as the provisions of sections 21, 23, and 29 of the Act.

As a result, he was placed under arrest under the Act's section 43(b). The man was taken to a government hospital, according to the officer. He was later made to undergo a medical test. His Covid report came negative.  He was then brought before the court, where a customs official stated that he was not necessary to undergo any more interrogation. They asked a judge to place him in judicial custody. After hearing the prosecution's case, the court granted their request. He has been remanded in judicial custody for fourteen days.
