New Delhi: On Wednesday, a South Sudanese legislative delegation met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan under the leadership of Jemma Nunu Kumba, speaker of the Transitional National Assembly.

Welcoming the delegation to India, President Droupadi Murmu said that India and South Sudan enjoy cordial and friendly relations. She said that India is proud to contribute a significant number of troops to the UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan. She continued by saying that in addition to participating in peace missions, Indian soldiers also play a significant humanitarian role and help to improve ties between the two nations.

India is devoted to being a dependable development partner for South SudansaidPresident Murmu. She expressed faith that South Sudanese youth will benefit from the training and capacity-building opportunities offered by the ITEC and ICCR scholarship programmes offered by India.

The President stated that South Sudan's ongoing political process, including the creation of a new Constitution, can profit from India's experiences with parliamentary democracy. She added that India would give South Sudan its entire assistance throughout this process.

The President said that India is committed to being a reliable development partner for South Sudan. She expressed optimism that the youth of South Sudan would take advantage of the training and capacity-building opportunities provided by India's ITEC and ICCR scholarship programmes.

India recognized South Sudan in 2011 soon after South Sudan became independent. South Sudan maintains an embassy in New Delhi and India at Juba. There are approximately 1000 Indians living in South Sudan currently.
