PARIS: As the fifth Covid wave rises in southern France, a 'code white' notice is issued. According to BFMTV, the Regional Health Agency of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur has activated the "code white" warning at all hospitals in southern France.
According to sources, the "code white" alert, which was enacted into French law in 2004, comprises organizational actions such as mobilizing backup personnel and prioritizing operations for coronavirus patients in hospitals in the event of a catastrophic sanitary crisis or overcrowding. In a news release, the organization stated that "the dynamics of this outbreak are now seriously harming hospitals in the area." New admissions have shown a fairly sustained increase due to Covid for more than two weeks, both in critical care services and in conventional medicine," the report added.
On Monday, Marseille hospitals recorded 140 inpatients, 36 of whom were in intensive care. In the hospitals of Lille, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Saint-Brieuc, the country's other regional health agencies have also triggered "code white." During earlier flu pandemics and terrorist attacks, "Code White" was triggered. It was deployed for the first time during the Covid-19 epidemic in March 2020.
Increasing the number of reanimation beds, shifting patients to less crowded hospitals, tightening communication protocols, establishing a crisis unit, mobilizing backup personnel, and prioritizing operations for coronavirus patients are among France's "code white" initiatives.
