Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan, who is imprisoned in jail, has got a big setback from the court. He will not be able to take oath of MLA post by going to the assembly today. Actually, the court has rejected the demand of the jail administration, in which permission was sought to allow Azam Khan to go to the assembly for swearing-in.

Let us inform that Azam Khan, who is serving a jail sentence, had recently also resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha along with Akhilesh Yadav. He was the Lok Sabha MP from Rampur seat. However, in the 2022 assembly elections, he contested from the Rampur assembly seat. He has won this seat again. Now Azam Khan has resigned from the Lok Sabha, taking the decision to remain in the assembly. The swearing-in of new MLAs is going on in the UP Assembly. On Monday, all the MLAs including CM Yogi Adityanath, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav took oath of office and secrecy. The remaining MLAs are taking oath today. Let us inform that Abdullah Azam Khan, son of Azam Khan and Abbas Ansari, son of Mukhtar Ansari have taken oath as MLA. Abdullah Azam Khan has won from Swar seat of Rampur. While Mukhtar Ansari's son Abbas Ansari has been elected MLA from Mau Sadar seat.

At the same time, the Allahabad High Court has given relief to Abbas Ansari. Allahabad HC has stayed the arrest of Abbas Ansari. The court has asked the Election Commission and the UP government to respond by April 27. Actually, Abbas Ansari had threatened the officials during the election campaign. He had said during the campaign that if the SP government is formed, there will be no transfer of officers for 6 months, first the officers will be accounted for.
