Lucknow: In Ayodhya, political tensions have escalated following an incident involving Shahban, an Islamist accused of raping a girl from a tribal community. The controversy intensified when Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Awadhesh Prasad attempted to leverage the situation for political gain by visiting the victim's family at night. His visit, which took place around 8 p.m. on Saturday, was met with resistance from the victim's family and local villagers.
The victim's family expressed their displeasure, questioning the timing of Prasad's visit and accusing him of neglecting their earlier pleas for assistance. The family highlighted their frustration with the delay in response from political figures, pointing out that despite their efforts to file an FIR, help only arrived after three days, and under dubious circumstances. Prasad's assurances of providing security and compensation, and his promise that the accused would be punished, did little to quell the outrage. The local villagers gathered in protest, leading to Prasad leaving the scene within ten minutes.
The case involves serious allegations: the victim's mother claims that her daughter was raped by Shahban last month while she was in a field. Shahban, along with his friend Manu, allegedly threatened the victim to keep silent and later intimidated her family. The victim's mother reported that Shahban and his associates surrounded their home on September 2, making threats and instilling fear by suggesting violence and intimidation. This has left the family in a state of distress and insecurity.
