NEW DELHI: Another Rajya Sabha MP from the SP resigned from his Rajya Sabha membership. This is the second setback for the SP after Neeraj Shekhar. There is speculation that Nagar may soon be the BJP's daman. Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu accepted his resignation. Surendra Nagar, who belongs to the Gujjar community, is considered to have influence in many districts. Apart from Saharanpur, Baghpat, Ghaziabad and Gautambuddhnagar, surendra Nagar has influence on the Gurjar community in several adjoining districts.

Surendra Nagar, a big milk and ghee businessman, has a Famous Brand across Uttar Pradesh. Surendra Nagar was also a Lok Sabha MP from Gautambuddh Nagar seat when he became an MP on the BSP ticket. Earlier in 1998, he holds an Independent MLC from the local body area. Surendra Nagar was raising the SP flag in western Uttar Pradesh. The resignation of the party has dealt a major blow to the SP in western Uttar Pradesh.

Surendra Nagar has a lot of influence in Gujjars. Several top LEADERS of the SP have joined the BJP so far. Earlier, Neeraj Shekhar, son of spas' Rajya Sabha member and former PM Chandrasekhar, joined the BJP by resigning from the party and Rajya Sabha. Neeraj Shekhar was angry with the party president Akhilesh Yadav for not giving him a ticket from Ballia Lok Sabha seat. Some more SP leaders have joined the BJP.
