New Delhi [India], July 10 (NT): Concerning about repeated adjournments of the House without any affairs being performed in some sessions of the 16th Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has send a letter to all members of the lower house.
"At times, some Hon'ble Members have come to the well of the House and shouted slogans, shown placards and banners and interrupted the proceedings of the House. Consequently, the House had to be adjourned repeatedly without transacting any business," the Speaker letter read.
The 75-year-old Mahajan requested members to assure that conversation, divergence of opinion and dissent is within the well-established parameters and accepted norms of Parliamentary decorum so that people may carry on to have abiding trust in democracy and democratic institutions.
In this letter, She stated that everyday interruption in the House do not suit present and desired picture and image of the functioning of democracy in India.
Concluding the letter Mahajan expressed hope that cooperation from members of the House will land a hand to establish high standards of Parliamentary conduct, discipline and decorum.
She hoped the electoral and political clashes will be fought in the constituencies and at the same time members will set free their democratic accountabilities with decorum in the House.
