The recently launched Citroen Basalt SUV Coupé has achieved a 4-star safety rating in the India New Car Assessment Program (India NCAP) crash test. This SUV competes with the Tata Curvv in India. The Basalt's strong safety rating has further enhanced its competition with the Tata Curvv. Tata cars are generally considered very strong in terms of safety, but now Basalt is also claiming better safety.

Crash test information

The Basalt was crash tested in August 2024, testing the safety of both adults and children. It scored 26.19 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 35.90 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Thus, Basalt has joined the list of safe cars in India.

Safety Performance of Basalt

The India NCAP test tested the Basalt's safety features through frontal and side-impact collisions. This SUV scored all 16 points in the side crash test, which proves it to be of high standard for customer safety.

In the frontal impact test, the Basalt's performance was mixed. It offered good head and neck protection for the driver and front passenger, but slightly less protection for the driver's chest and thighs. However, chest protection for front-seat passengers was quite good.

Safety for children

For child safety, Basalt performed well. It scored 19.90 out of 24 points in the dynamic crash test for children. By using child restraint systems for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children, Citroën proves that it is also serious about the safety of young passengers.

Safety features of Citroen Basalt

Basalt includes several robust safety features. These include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat anchors and three-point seat belts for all passengers. Due to its safety features and strong steel framework, this SUV has received a 4-star safety rating in crash tests.

Price and competition

Citroen Basalt ex-showroom price in India ranges from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 13.83 lakh. It competes with the Tata Curve, which starts at Rs 9.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 19 lakh. Thus, the Citroen Basalt has not only achieved a strong safety rating, but also presents a great option with its safety features.
