For Ganesh Chaturthi 2024, Indian Railways has planned to operate approximately 304 special trains to manage the surge in passenger traffic during the festive season. This includes 56 special trains introduced by the Western Central Railway to cater specifically to the high demand along popular routes. The ten-day festival, which will take place from September 7 to September 16, sees a significant movement of people from Mumbai to the Konkan region, as many devotees return to their hometowns to celebrate. In response to this yearly migration, Indian Railways has strategically announced additional trains to ensure smoother travel and to meet the increased passenger load effectively. These special trains are designed to cover key destinations, ensuring that travelers can reach their destinations comfortably and on time during the auspicious period.
Among these, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) will operate seven special trains throughout September. Every year, thousands of people travel from Mumbai to their hometowns in the Konkan region to celebrate the ten-day Ganesh Utsav, which will begin on September 7 and conclude on September 16.
