New Delhi: After Lok Sabha, the SPG Amendment Bill 2019 has been passed in the upper house of Parliament on Tuesday. However, during this period, members of Congress walked out. During the debate on the bill in the Upper House, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the bill has nothing to do with the Gandhi family. Nor has it been brought up with the intention of political rivalry.

Amit Shah said that it is not true that in view of Gandhi family, we have brought SPG bill. He said that the security was withdrawn from the Gandhi family after reviewing the threat before the bill was introduced. He said that there is no political interest nor any security lapse. The responsibility of protecting 130 crore countrymen with the Gandhi family is on the shoulder of the central government.

Home Minister Amit Shah said that this is the fifth amendment to the SPG Act. This amendment is not taken into consideration by the Gandhi family. I can say with confidence that this has been done keeping in mind the last four amendments and not by thinking about one family. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that security should not be a question of prestige. After all, why only SPG demand? SPG cover is only for the head of the country, we cannot provide this protection to everyone.
