New Delhi: SpiceJet Airlines CEO and Managing Director (CMD) Ajay Singh has said that a 'healthy' Air India is good for the entire country and its brand will gradually regain its old glory after the government privatises it. Asked if he had bid for Air India in his personal capacity, Singh said, "You know we have a privacy agreement with the government. Therefore, I can't talk about AI's bid.''

According to sources, financial bids filed by Singh and Tata Group for debt-ridden Air India were opened last month and the 'Main Group of Secretaries on Disinvestment' evaluated those bids on September 29. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba is the chief of the group. On October 1, Tuhin Kant Pandey, secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), the government department responsible for privatisation, tweeted that the Centre has not yet approved financial bids for Air India and whenever it happens, it will be communicated to the media.

Earlier, Ajay Singh had said last Monday, "It is very important for India that we have a leading aviation service known all over the world. Ajay Singh made this statement on the sidelines of the 77th Annual General Meeting of the International Aviation Body, International Air Transport Association (IATA).''
