Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse opens in India today, a day before it opens in the United States. There is a lot of excitement in India for this film, as seen by the advance bookings. The picture has a wide distribution on about 1800 screens, which is more than double what the first part, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, had in India when it was released. With roughly 40,000 tickets already sold in India's three major chains, the picture is expected to take a strong start and set foundations for a long run in Indian theaters.

For the first day of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, around 40,000 tickets were sold in three major chains. Over 20,000 tickets were sold in PVR until 9 p.m. the day before the release, 10,000 in Inox, and 5,000 in Cinepolis, and it is currently comfortably around or over 40,000 as this piece goes live. These figures suggest an opening of roughly Rs 4.5 crores, making it the second best opening for an animated film in India, after only Incredibles 2. Across The Spider-Verse has a shot to beat it, but it will need good on-day movement, which is typically difficult for a mid-week release. It will very certainly have the biggest day for an animated picture in India on Saturday and Sunday, with numbers likely double what it gets on Thursday and Friday.

Across The Spider-Verse will outperform the first part of the saga, Into The Spider-Verse, which earned roughly Rs 9 crores nett in India at the time of its release. Saturday and Sunday totals may equal the first installment's lifetime totals. Spider-Man's brand is quite powerful, and it continues to grow with each film. Since the early 2000s, live-action Spider-Man films have been in high demand, but now the animated version of the superhero series is joining the game. Animated films have never had a large market in India, but the collections of Across The Spider-Verse will help understand the country's potential for these films.
