NEW DELHI: An official said Monday that a 64-year-old man was arrested in the national capital for defrauding 60 Public Sector Undertakings employees, including the general public, of approximately Rs 14 crore.
Diwakar Sharma, a native of Akshardham Village in Delhi, was named as the suspect.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Economic Offenses Wing) Chhaya Sharma, the case was filed in July 2016 after a complaint was filed by one Gulshan Sethi against Shubhkamna Buildtech Pvt. Ltd. (SBPL) and its two directors, Piyush Tiwari and Diwakar Sharma, for their project "Shubhkamna City" in July-September 2013 to be developed in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
"The defendants promised the complainants that they would complete the project within two years of receiving the allotment letter, but they have yet to do so," the Jt CP stated.
The police then opened an investigation and filed a case under sections 406, 409, 420, and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code. "More than 60 complaints have been combined with the current FIR, and accused personnel have embezzled a total of more than Rs 14 crore," the senior officer said.
