Srabanti Chatterjee, the legendary Bengali actress, has announced her quit from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Srabanti announced her resignation from the BJP in a tweet, citing the party's "lack of initiative and sincerity to further the cause of Bengal" as the reason for her quit. "severing all ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party for which I ran in the recent state elections. The reason for this is their lack of initiative and sincerity in advancing Bengal's cause "The 34-year-old actress took to Twitter to express her feelings.

Srabanti became a member of the saffron party shortly before the Assembly elections earlier this year. Chatterjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the March 1, 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. Senior BJP leaders such as then-state president Dilip Ghosh, Kailash Vijaywargiya, and Amit Malviya helped her join. "I want to work for the people of West Bengal," Chatterjee said when he first joined the party. I will carry forward the BJP's Sonar Bangla vision."

Chatterjee was later given a ticket by the party and ran in the Behala West Assembly Constituency against Trinamool Congress heavyweight candidate Partha Chatterjee.
