Kushinagar: Sri Lanka's Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa met with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on Wednesday, October 20. The Minister of Youth and Sports presented PM Modi with a Sinhala translation of the Bhagavad Gita.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla received the Sri Lankan delegation at the airport. The delegation, led by Sri Lankan Minister Namal Rajapaksa consists of nearly 100 senior Buddhist monks, 4 state ministers and other senior officials, who arrived from Colombo on the auspicious Vap Poya Day. The visit of the Sri Lankan delegation was made on the invitation extended by Pri,e Minster during Virtual Bilateral Summit with Sri Lanka in September 2020.

They met while attending the inauguration of the Kushinagar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh today The inauguration was marked by the landing of an inaugural flight at the airport from Colombo carrying a Sri Lankan and dignitaries, including a 12-member holy relic entourage. The inaugural flight also brought Sacred Kapilavastu relics of Waskaduwa for an exposition.

Addressing an event organised to mark Abhidhamma Day, Rajapaksa thanked Prime Minister Modi for extending a grant of USD 15 million to Sri Lanka to strengthen the Buddhist ties between the two nations. Sri Lanka's Minister said, "It gives me immense pleasure and honour to be on the inaugural international flight to Kushinagar on the auspicious day of Vap Poya Day.
