In the Supreme Court on Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir government has justified the decision of detention of former CM Omar Abdullah under the Public Security Act (PSA). The administration has submitted an affidavit stating that Omar Abdullah still remains a threat to public order. A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Justice Indira Banerjee on March 5 on the habeas corpus petition of his sister Sarah Abdullah Pilot challenging Omar's detention. The hearing date was fixed for Thursday.

In this affidavit given by the District Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar (DC) before the bench, Omar's detention has been justified. The District Deputy Commissioner said that on February 24, the Advisory Board has also stated this to be correct. In the affidavit, questions have also been raised by Omar not to keep his talk with the Advisory Board and not to knock the door of the High Court.

Regarding the matter, the administration said in an affidavit that Omar has always been making provocative statements about Article 370. Even before the abolition of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, Omar was very vocal about it. Releasing him now could spoil the atmosphere. It was also stated in the affidavit that due to the geographical proximity of Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, there is a need for continuous testing on public order.
