Srinagar Shuts Down After Avalanche Hits Jawahar Tunnel, rescue operations underway

Srinagar: After a heavy avalanche hit the region early Tuesday morning, The Jawahar Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu highway has been shut down. It has created a big blockade and paralysing civic movement.

North portal of the Kashmir side in Qazigund area of Jammu and Kashmir got affected by the avalanche hit . As per the reports, rescue operations are underway. There are no reports of casualties yet.

Last big, a huge avalanche in Ladakh's Khardung La where 6 people were killed and four others are feared dead as rescue operations is underway. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Official told to news agency PTI that The truck carrying a group of 10 people was hit by the avalanche at 7 am on Friday in Khardung La. As per the media reports, the survival chances in such avalanches are bleak.

The weather department has predicted heavy snowfall and blizzards in Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days. The state capital has been recording sub-zero degree temperatures for a while now and the temperature is expected to fall further.
