NEW DELHI:  Three women reportedly died and many other pilgrims were injured in a stampede at the famous Khatu Shyam temple in Rajasthan’s Sikar district early on Monday. The stampede took plae during a rush of pilgrims when the temple’s entry doors were opened during a monthly fair.

The police deployed to the spot to control the situation. While one of the dead  was identified, two of the injured were taken to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur for treatment. Several others were discharged after treatment at a primary health centre situated outside the temple.

Following the incident,  Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sympathies for the deaths caused by the stampede at the renowned Khatu Shyamji Temple in Sikar, Rajasthan. He also wished those injured in the incident a swift recovery.

"We're sorry to hear that a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple complex in Sikar, Rajasthan, has claimed lives. My condolences go out to the departed families. I ask for the quickest possible recovery for those who have been injured "stated PM Modi in a tweet.

Two injured patients were taken to a Jaipur hospital. Police arrived quickly at the event to manage the crowd. To receive medical attention, two of the injured have been sent to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur. After receiving care at a PHC outside the temple, a number of further injured people were released.

Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, also expressed his sorrow over the deaths caused by the stampede and wished the injured a swift recovery shortly after the incident was reported.

Gehlot said in Tweet: "It is really sad and terrible that three women devotees dead in the Khatu Shyamji Temple in Sikar due to astampede. My sincere condolences go out to the grieving family; may God provide them the fortitude to endure this loss, and may the soul of the deceased rest in peace."
